Training after a leg-break with metal rod & plate in leg?

I broke my tib & fib, bad open fracture, about a month ago. They fixed it up quick, but there’s metal in my leg (a rod & a plate, couple screws) and I can’t have the metal out for 12-18 months (which I will do as soon as I’m able).

Just wondered if anyone’s been through this before, how you adjusted back to training etc? I know kicking with my left leg is out (with any proper force, at least), but hoping I can do just about everything else (with enough recovery / practice ofc)
