I am a 174cm (5’8.4″) female. I walk around at approximately 66kg – 70kg, however some mornings I wake up and I am 66kg.
I am currently training Muay Thai I haven’t had my first fight yet and I’ve been training for just under a year now. I love the sport and fighting.
However, I have seen in many of the big organizations, the weight classes are very light. For example WKO, the maximum weight is 66.6kg, which I could just about make. But in every other organization, the maximum weight is about 62kg at a push. Even one championships maximum weight is 56.7kg.
Is this a reflection of the sport in general for me? I feel like I may not have opponents or fights or any opportunity to grow.
Is there any point with me continuing Muay Thai? Because although I love the sport, I want to fight professionally or at least at a high amateur level and I want to be in a sport where I can reach my full potential.
This whole thing isn’t really an issue in boxing where my weight class is normal. So should I just pursue boxing instead? I have really long legs and above average strength for female.
I’m not really that educated about how all this works so any insight will be extremely appreciated thank you 🙂
