I just started doing Muay Thai and want to hear about your experience. I’m feeling frustrated since I can’t practice regularly because I keep getting some injuries.
A little background: I was going to the gym for a few years, but decided to switch to Muay Thai because I used to do martial arts when I was a child and really liked it. I’m not going to be a pro fighter or anything. I’m just doing it for fun, but every time I start, it goes wrong. After the first few weeks, I got fissures in both knees. The good news after getting an MRI was that my joints are in good shape. But I had to stop doing sport for 3 weeks. Then, when I started again, I had awful hip pain and skipped another week. I started again last week, and after three training sessions, I got the same pain in my knee again. Of course, I’m going to stop and see a doctor, but it feels really frustrating because I need to stop doing sports and start from scratch.
Has anyone else had the same difficulties when they started? What did you do?
For now, I expect my doctor to tell me to stop for a month or more. Maybe I’ll focus on the gym or stretching and come back after recovery.
