I’m a girl, smallest and youngest in my gym. I’m used to mainly boxing sparring from a very young age so I have no problem taking shots from people much bigger than me. Been doing Thai on and off alongside mainly boxing since I was 9. I fully switched to Thai last year.
4 times, I have been injured due to being sweeped by someone way bigger than me. Once it was just during a drill and my partner didn’t realise at all that a drill could injure me like that, I genuinely thought I was paralysed for a few seconds and the whole room was silent and worried. Other times it’s been, a huge guy accidentally sweeped himself along with me and I still have an uncomfortable lump on my wrist from it 2 years later, my leg’s twisted badly, been concussed, and just nasty nasty bruises. I’ve only ever been injured from sweeps.
After that, I don’t want to be sweeped by people bigger than me in sparring. It’s just too dangerous. I love intense spars and can handle hard and fast striking but I am not risking another injury from being sweeped by someone twice my size. Now, before spars with someone bigger I always say “please don’t sweep me, I’ve gotten injured a few times from being sweeped by bigger guys” and a lot of people seem really confused by this. They say “cmon I wont sweep you hard” but even the gentlest sweepers have injured me without realising how much a size difference affects a smaller guy!!
Am I being a wuss for this
