Sylvie’s been working with Chatchai Sasakul for some time now. He’s probably the foremost Boxing Kru in all of Thailand, coach of many world champions, not to mention a former WBC World Champion himself. In this bit of video from this week he is showing Sylvie how to “clip” past the target. This isn’t the proverbial “punch through” the target (though it can be similar). It transfers the power with a feeling of “shock” at the point of connection. He usually emphasizes this in hooks, especially on the bag, as you return weight to the back foot and you can really feel that clipping connection. But here he’s talking about it in a variety of strikes. Punching “through” the target is often more of a blasting, or “aiming” behind the target, and that too is a way of punching (or kicking), and there are other ways as well, for instance the heavy hitting Lakhin taught Sylvie to stop right on the target, with a pop. This particular way though for Chatchai develops a “feeling” in the hand, for the point of contact, and works well with his weight transfer and continuity, I suspect. submitted by /u/kevin_v |
