First Sparring Session

This post was originally published on this site.

3 months in & i got the heads up from my coach to spar today & it felt pretty good. It’s a whole new ball game from regular classes & i love it. one spar session almost felt like 5 classes, learned a lot in that short amount of time. i know what i need to work on & what i’m good at. I enjoy having to adjust on the fly & figuring out what works & what doesn’t. Finally felt what a good clean punch feels like & taking one. (Usually love tap in class unless it’s pad/bag-work) Definitely got caught a few times but i got mines too it’s all part of it. Went in with 0 expectation & that was key for me. I knew the jab was important but i still underestimated it. From setting up shots to finding my range or just disrupting their rhythm it was my best strike today. One thing i got caught with a few times was the counter off my 1-2 at range. need to work on bringing back my lead hand quicker or feint the 2 (& to keep my head off line) & follow up with something else & keeping my guard tight. Lastly whats some advice you wish you knew before sparring or something that helped you along the way.
