Weightlifting use to be my main focus and my ideal weight for that sport is 82kg. I have since gotten back into Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Boxing for the past few years and have dropped to 75kg and think I could be competitive at 70kg as an amateur. If I were a Pro, I would probably have to fight at 67kg or even less.
I think to the average person, they hear you fight at X weight class, and they assume you are going to be tiny, but if you are under around 6ft, you are probably going to be fighting at a “small” weight class by western standards. I am 5’9, it would absolutely suck to fight a guy like Lessei or Bampara in Pro 70kg MT. I don’t understand how Nabil makes 145.
It wild that the difference between my ideal fight weight, and my ideal lifting weight are 15kg/33lbs or more.
I know you have guys like Cedric Doumbe who is short for 77kg and still does well, but guys like him are more of exception to the rule. I feel most kickboxers tend to be long and lean
How low should you go?
