Okey, so I’m a larger guy (192cm 95kg/6’4 220) with poor hip mobility. I’ve got diagnosed hip impingement, and have always struggled with kicks.
I’m generally a big fan of light sparring, and when kicking (because I’m often the bigger guy) I usually go no harder than 20-30%. However, this along with my shitty hips leads to my kicks getting caught super frequently, often multiple times per round in sparring.
I brought this up with my coach, to see if he had any technique tips for me, he said he didn’t have anything apart from kicking a bit harder (which makes it faster thus harder to catch). Took his advice, started throwing with maybe 40-50% power, and have accidentally dropped 3 people from body kicks, lol.
Obviously I do not want to be “that heavyweight”, so I’m asking to see if anyone has any tips to not get your kicks caught without necessarily having to use more power?
