Sakasem Kanthawong is a muay thai coach in the united states, he has taught several seminars that either myself or some of our coaches have attended. There is a list of many many things that dont add up. If anyone can help clarify that would help so much.
- His record has been posted and reads different many times. This is the most common stated record.
Record: Fought over 200 fights and holds a career record of 215 wins (159 by KO) and 35 losses.
He currently shows 159 knockouts, which would mean he has more knockouts than the legendary Sagat petchyindee. Who has the world record for muay thai knockouts. That sounds very strange considering this should make this person more widely known.
-
Footage There is no footage of his fights in Thailand, considering how high profile his record would state, that is strange. There is footage of fights in the united states. But nothing from Thailand. There are fighters from his era that have footage. Yet known from him.
-
Hong Kong Open: There was talk of a tournament that sounds mysteriously like the plot of the bloodsport movie. He won this tournament. This is the printed explanation.
Notable Accomplishments: In the 1984 Hong Kong Championship Open, he defeated fighters of various styles, including a sumo wrestler, a French boxer, a Latin boxer, and a Dutch kickboxer, all by TKO.
There seems to be a tournament that would match this format and time, but no listing of Sakasem Kanthawong at this tournament.
- Awkward number system for combinations 1 is a cross 2 is a jab, cross 3 is a cross, jab, cross 4 is a jab, cross, jab, cross
Combination sequences are incredibly long, the sequences seem to not flow.
- Clinch Teaches to interlock fingers in the clinch, im not an expert, but seems like everyone else says to never do that.
There are many more things just going to start with the above. -Basically his record seems exaggerated. -The Hong Kong Open appears to be a real tournament that he may not have competed in. -He states more knockouts than the world record holder, Sagat.
Hoping to get the real story.
