Training with Shin Splint and other common injuries in intensively practising MT in Thailand?

This post was originally published on this site.

I’ve been ramping up running before heading out to Thailand, where I intend to train 4-6 days per week, 1 session per day to start and then build up as I acclimitize.

I dabbled in MT in 2019 in Krabi, and have done a couple of PTs since then, but essentially a beginner/novice. My fitnsess background is predominately on and off weight lifting.

Got to the point where I have been running 10k (6.21 miles) per day after 1 month (4-5 days on, 1 day off), aiming for under 70 minutes (which became under 60-65 mins during month 2). 27-28 min 5ks.

I had a bout of plantar facitis which I managed to quickly subside with stretches/exercises, now 4 days ago (after my last 10k) I have developed what I believe to be a shin splint in my left leg, and it appears stretching/exercises has not helped as quickly as it did for the PF so far.

My questions are:

– Should I delay going to Thailand until completely recovered? Can I still train effectively if I were to jump on a bike or some other cario workout while my shin splint heals? Anyone have any experience practising MT with a shin splint?

– After picking up PF & now shin splint I am wondering, what other common ailments/injuries are picked up during intensively practising MT in Thailand? What should I keep an eye out for, what can I bring with me to help recover or prevent (i.e. I already have an ankle support, resistance bands, knee brace)?

Cheers.

EDIT: SS “pain” is roughly 3/10, tender when standing and running. Can ignore it but concerned it could quickly get worse.
