56yr Old Just Beginning

Hey, need some advice or encouragement. Just completed my 4th day of basics class. I’ve never done any form of martial arts in my life. I’m in relatively good shape, I did 5 yrs of CrossFit and go to the gym 4-5 days (HIIT & weights). However, this is like learning a new language. I’m SO slow and I don’t hit hard especially my shins when I kick the bag, no pop and my shins hurt when I hit the bag. I know if I keep at it I should improve, but bros, this is going to be an uphill battle for me I think. My primary goals are Fitness and of course learning some self-defense is always a good thing. So the stupid question of the day is, do I stick with this or am I too old?
